Tired All the Time: Why Fatigue Is Rarely Just About Sleep
Tired All the Time: Why Fatigue Is Rarely Just About Sleep
There is a particular kind of tiredness that is hard to explain to people who haven't experienced it. Not the tiredness that comes after a late night or a busy week, the kind that a good sleep fixes. This is something deeper. You wake up tired. You get through the day on willpower and caffeine. You rest at the weekend and still don't feel recovered. And yet, on paper, nothing is obviously wrong.
This kind of fatigue is one of the most common things people bring to kinesiology and also one of the most misunderstood.
Why sleep alone doesn't fix it
When tiredness persists despite adequate rest, it's usually a sign that something else is going on beneath the surface. The body isn't just tired from lack of sleep. It's tired from carrying something. That something could be a number of things, and this is where kinesiology offers a different perspective. Rather than focusing only on sleep quality or quantity, kinesiology looks at the whole picture. What is the body actually dealing with? What systems are under load? Where is the energy going, and why isn't there enough of it?
What kinesiology looks for
In a session, we use gentle muscle testing to explore what the body is prioritising. With fatigue, this often points to one or more of the following areas.
The adrenal glands are frequently involved. These small glands sit above the kidneys and are responsible for producing stress hormones including cortisol. When the body has been under sustained stress, whether physical, emotional or biochemical, the adrenals can become depleted, leaving a person feeling flat and deeply tired in a way that is difficult to shake.
Nutritional depletion is another common finding. B vitamins, iron, magnesium and vitamin D are among the nutrients most closely linked to energy production, and many people are running low without realising it. The body may be doing its best with insufficient resources, and that has a cost.
The nervous system also plays a significant role. When the body is stuck in a low grade stress response, which can happen so gradually that it becomes the new normal, energy is quietly being diverted away from everyday functioning and into a state of readiness that was never meant to be permanent. This is exhausting, even when life doesn't feel particularly stressful on the surface.
Emotional and energetic factors can contribute too. Unresolved stress patterns, grief, or long held tension in the body all require energy to maintain. Kinesiology offers a gentle way to work with these layers without needing to talk them through in detail.
What people notice
Fatigue can be one of the slower areas to shift, simply because it often has multiple contributing factors that need to be worked through over time. But many people notice meaningful changes within a few sessions. A clearer head. More consistent energy through the day. Waking up feeling more rested. A sense of having more capacity for life rather than simply getting through it.
It isn't about pushing the body to perform better. It's about removing the load that was draining it in the first place.
If this resonates
If you have been tired for longer than feels normal and haven't been able to find a clear reason why, it might be worth exploring what the body has to say about it. I offer sessions in Falmouth, Cornwall and online, and I'm always happy to answer questions before you commit to anything.
